On December 17, 2020, Otis Elevator Company recalled thousands of private residence elevators purchased from Otis and CemcoLift, after several reports of children being trapped between the interior elevator car and the exterior door to the residence. Children have suffered severe injuries to the spine, abdomen, hip, arm, feet, and chest and face. The recall notes that risk of “serious injuries or death” is present if the elevator is not fixed.

The recall is for Otis private residence elevators purchased and installed before 2012, and for CemcoLift private residence elevators purchased and installed up to 2012.
